$8,000 reward offered in fatal Lake County hit-and-run

Thanks to money raised through an online fundraiser, Lake County officials are offering an $8,000 reward to find the person responsible for a hit-and-run crash that killed James A. Spicak, 68, of unincorporated Prairie View. After an unknown vehicle struck and killed Spicak on Oct. 12, Lake County Crime Stoppers and Spicak's family each pledged $1,000 toward a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the offender. Spicak's family also created a GoFundMe page, which has since raised more than $6,500. Full story.

Five injured in Streamwood crash involving ambulance, SUV

Five people were injured yesterday in a crash involving a private ambulance and an SUV in Streamwood, fire officials said. Streamwood Fire Chief Chris Clark said the crash occurred about 4:05 p.m. at the intersection of Route 59 and Tall Grass Court. Route 59 was closed Sunday between Schaumburg and Golf roads. Loved ones carry on Naperville woman's tradition of giving

Emily Driscoll, 22, of Naperville, could always be counted on to donate blood from practically the moment she became eligible. LifeSource Community Donor Center in Naperville had a chance to give back to the family yesterday, holding a blood drive event that honored the memory of Emily, who died Nov. 9, 2014, when she and her greyhound, Quincy, were struck by a car while taking a walk. Retail ready to burst along Rand Road

Development is about to burst on a two-mile stretch of the Rand Road corridor north of Lake-Cook Road, area officials and developers say. Kildeer Chief Village Officer Michael Talbett said the spate of developer interest in the Rand Road corridor is a significant display of confidence in his town, Lake Zurich and Deer Park. "What's good for one is really good for all," Talbett said. Projects include retail centers, new restaurants, a gasoline station and a day-care operation. Full story.

Dundee-Crown students on a global mission for girls education

Molly Foulkes believes empowering girls through education can change the world. The 18-year-old Dundee-Crown High School senior helped start the Girl Up Dundee student club with that goal. The Girl Up campaign supports programs helping girls in five developing countries gain access to education, health care, safe living conditions, and social and economic opportunities. Dundee-Crown is among three Northwest suburban schools with chapters. Girl Up Dundee hosts its first gala supporting the global campaign at 7 p.m. Dec. 10, at the high school. Full story.

Bears can't complete comeback against Broncos
