Armed robbery in Aurora may be related to 4 others

Aurora police released surveillance photos Monday from a weekend armed robbery that may be related to four other similar robberies that have happened in recent months, police said.

A masked man entered a 7-Eleven on the 600 block of South Frontenac Street at 4:15 a.m. Saturday, pointed a handgun at the clerk, grabbed him by the collar and led him to the cash register, police said.

The clerk gave him an undisclosed amount of money and the suspect left through the front door and ran across Ogden Avenue. The race of the suspect is unclear, police said, but he's described as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, small to medium build, with all black clothes and a black mask.

The same 7-Eleven was robbed Sept. 3. In that robbery, a suspect with a scarf over his face entered with a rifle or shotgun and pointed the gun at the clerk, demanding and taking money before hitting the clerk in the head with the gun, police said. The clerk was treated at the scene and released.

The suspect was described as black, between 5 feet, 10 inches and 6 feet, 2 inches tall, and weighing between 140 and 170 pounds.

Three other armed robberies took place on Oct. 7, Nov. 4 and Nov. 7. Police say it's unclear if they're all related but that detectives suspect a connection.

On Oct. 7, a man armed with a long gun robbed the Circle K Gas Station on the 2900 block of East New York Street about 1:50 a.m., police said. The man approached an employee outside the business and directed the clerk into the store, demanding money, police say. The suspect was described as a black man 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall, about 150 to 180 pounds with a medium build who spoke with a high-pitched voice.

On Nov. 4, two men entered Circle K Gas Station on the 1500 block of Butterfield Road about 3:20 a.m., and one of the men threatened the clerk and implied he had a weapon, police said. They stole money, the clerk's cellphone and other items, with a total loss estimated at $1,200, police said. The men were described as black and 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with one weighing 150 pounds and the other 200 pounds.

On Nov. 7, three men robbed the Thornton's Gas Station on the 2800 block of Ogden Avenue about 3:30 a.m., police said. One man had a long gun and one had a handgun. One suspect punched the clerk in the face before the trio took money, the clerk's cellphone, a store-owned iPad and other merchandise totaling $1,530, police said. The suspects were described as black men, 6 feet tall and weighing between 175 and 210 pounds. The clerk was treated and released at the scene.
