Five injured in Streamwood crash involving ambulance, SUV

Five people were injured Sunday in crash involving a private ambulance and an SUV in Streamwood, fire officials said.

Streamwood Fire Chief Chris Clark said the crash occurred about 4:05 p.m. at the intersection of Route 59 and Tall Grass Court, a dead-end street that leads to a residential subdivision.

Route 59 is closed in both directions between Schaumburg and Golf roads, he said.

Two people who were in the SUV suffered severe injuries after they were pinned inside the vehicle and had to be extricated, Clark said.

Three people in the ambulance, including a patient, sustained nonlife threatening injuries, he said.

All five were taken to the St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates.

Streamwood police are investigating the cause and circumstances of the crash, Clark said.
