Holding the line on Kane County taxes
As Kane County Board chairman, I would like to thank each member of the county board and each commissioner of the forest preserve who once again voted to freeze the property tax levy for running county government.
This means that for the fifth year in a row — half a decade — county government will not ask property taxpayers for even one penny more than they paid in the 2011 property tax year.
The main complaint that I have heard for the past 24 years of public service is, “We are being taxed out of our homes.” Members of the board and forest preserve recognize the legitimacy and accuracy of this problem, but more importantly, have held the line on this crucial concern.
If you have any questions or would like one-page diagrams of the past 12 years of property tax levies and what the freeze means in terms of “dollars saved by taxpayers,” please call my office at 630/232-5931 or email CLauzen@kanecoboard.org.
This is a successful collective effort by most countywide elected officials, all department directors and their staffs under the policy guidance and performance oversight of the County Board. I applaud and thank everyone involved.
