O'Carroll's big game carries Prospect

Senior Clare O'Carroll scored a career-high 22 points with 11 rebounds and 4 assists to help lead Prospect to a 57-51 win over Niles West at the York Girls Thanksgiving Basketball Tournament on Friday night in Elmhurst.

Other key contributors were Angela Roman (11 points, 10 rebounds), Emily Frasco (7 points, 2 assists, 3 steals), Brenda Kendziera (5 points, 5 rebounds, 1 assist) and Nikki Matters (6 points, 5 rebounds) and Angelina Villasin (6 points, 3 rebounds 2 assists).

"Our posts were our strength again, with Clare (O'Carroll) dominating on the offensive end," said Knights coach Gabrielle Lovin. "She came into her own and took control. It was fun to watch.

"Angela (Roman) and Clare both had double-doubles. Our team has found a new person to lead the way each game. I hope by the end of the season we are all firing at the same time."

Prospect improved to 3-1 in the six-team tourney.

Niles North 60, Wheeling 55 (OT): Niles North outscored the Wildcats 11-6 in overtime at the Niles North Thanksgiving Tournament.

Melissa Claver (13 points), Nansy Velev (12) and Michaela Vasey (11) led the Wildcats (1-1). Teammate Coco Yoshino made 5-of-6 free throws.

Johnsburg 51, Rolling Meadows 47: Kyra Spiwak made 9-of-10 free throws and scored a game-high 18 points for the Mustangs in the Turkey Thriller tourney game in Johnsburg.

Megan King (four 3-pointers) added 12 points for Meadows (1-1) and teammate Katherine Nolan added 8.

Kelsey Nallon also had a 3-pointer for Meadows.

Palatine 38, Dundee-Crown 33: Ashley Shapiro scored a game-high 14 points as Palatine won its second straight game at the Dundee-Crown Thanksgiving Tournament. Michala Leber and Geena Eliades each had 3-pointers for the Pirates.

York 37, Conant 26: Jorie Wachal (12 points) and Karli Heneghan (8) led Conant (1-3) in the fourth-round game of the York Thanksgiving tourney. Brittany Laskero and Michelle Bensen each had 3-pointers for the Cougars.
