CLC troupe presents Winter Dance Concert

Three performances of the College of Lake County's Prairie Spirits Dance Troupe's Winter Dance Concert will take to the Mainstage Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on the CLC Grayslake Campus.

Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 5. This annual showcase of contemporary dance is being directed by dance faculty member Valerie Alpert and will feature a variety of music and dance styles. CLC faculty choreographers include Alpert, Terry Crews, Lamaiya Lancaster and Jeannine Potter.

Noted guest choreographers from the Chicago area include Reggio "The Hoofer" McLaughlin, a tap artist from the Chicago Human Rhythm Projects; Dmitri Peskov, a Chicago independent artist; and Cher Schwartz, multidisciplinary artists.

Other choreographers include Anna Erdman, Carissa Holmes, Alana Johnson and Matthew Kinney. Members of Teen Writers and Artist Project and the Valerie Alpert Dance Company will also perform.

"The program explores dance through a variety of lenses," Alpert said. "It takes us into the imagination of young artists who are at the beginning of their explorations, and into the experiences of professional artists who mind their craft passionately. All of them are dedicated to bringing dance directly into our communities."

Tickets are $12 for general admission, $10 for CLC staff and students and seniors; and $5 for children younger than 12. Prices include $2 JLC facility fee.

The James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts is at 19351 W Washington St., Grayslake.
