Versluys' 40 points lead Westminster Christian to win

Westminster Christian senior Maddie Versluys exploded for 40 points Thursday night in leading the Warriors' girls basketball team to a 56-49 win over Nazareth at the Harvest Christian Thanksgiving tournament.

Versluys, who holds the school record for single-game scoring at 43, also had 18 rebounds and 4 steals. Elise VanNoord (7 points, 8 rebounds) and Hannah Haecker (11 rebounds) also contributed to the win for Westminster (1-2).

Burlington Central 74, Woodstock 47: Kayla Ross scored 23 points, Sam Pryor added 16 and Shelby Holt added 14 to lead the Rockets (2-0) to a win at their own tournament. Becca Gerke added 9 points for BC.

St. Charles North 64, LaSalle-Peru 50: The North Stars won their season opener at the Pontiac Tournament behind 20 points from Morgan Rosencrants. Kyla Helsel added 11 points and Claire Jakiatis and Samantha Sample both scored 10.

Aurora Christian 55, Timothy Christian 29: Kirsten Madsen scored 15 points while Sami Hultine and Ashley Hochsprung added 12 each to lead the Eagles to a win in the IMSA/Aurora Christian tournament.

Proviso East 71, Batavia 49: At the Trinity tournament, Hannah Frazier had 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 steals as the Bulldogs fell to 1-1. Bethany Orman added 9 points and 5 steals for Batavia and Hailey Orman had 6 points and 3 steals.

Proviso West 41, Hampshire 36: Emma Benoit had 14 points and Rachel Dumoulin added 13 for the Whip-Purs (2-1) in this loss at the Hoffman Estates tournament.

ACC 44, Sandwich 25: Gina Cortino and Alex Johnston scored 9 points each and Taylor Harazin added 8 to lead the Chargers (2-1) to a win at the Somonauk tournament.

Lane Tech 48, Elgin 39: At the Fenton/Addison Trail tournament, Lakiya Harvey scored 11 points and Alisha Panthier had 8 for Elgin (1-1).
