Area Attorneys Speak at Regional Conferences

Several attorneys from Lavelle Law, Ltd. in Palatine recently participated in professional conferences in the Midwest, appearing on panels related to estate planning and business formation. Attorney Heather Walser was among the headline speakers at the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of Minnesota conference while partner Kerry Lavelle and attorney Jim Voigt participated in Harper College's first annual Veteran's Entrepreneurship Day.

Walser addressed the gathering of financial planning professionals at the Minneapolis Convention Center in early November. "I Love You, But…" How to Discuss the Estate Planning Topics No One Wants to Talk About offered CPE credits to the financial planners in attendance. "It was a great opportunity to discuss some strategies and approaches to getting clients to deal with the realities of implementing a sound financial plan," said Walser. "The audience consisted of some highly skilled individuals in their profession but I was able to share some of the legal benefits that can create a call to action without raising anxiety for a married couple or adult children of aging parents. The session was well-attended and we had a very thorough discussion of the topic."

Voigt and Lavelle first represented Lavelle Law on a panel that discussed ways that veterans can properly and successfully get a business up and running. Sponsored by the Harper College Entrepreneurship Program, the day featured veteran entrepreneurs sharing their experiences in starting and operating small businesses and then allowed attendees to walk through an expo of local businesses to learn more about the process. Along with Cornerstone Bank, Lavelle Law was one of the main sponsors of the event and had a booth set up following the panel. "I devote much of my time to helping entrepreneurs start their business, and put sound operating procedures in place while taking care of the required regulatory maintenance," said Voigt. "So many small businesses fail not because they lack good ideas or owners are unwilling to work hard, but because of issues like financing, administration and compliance overwhelm a new business. We talked through ways to utilize resources and manage growth effectively. It was great to spend time with service men and women who are looking to find their way into the workplace now."

Lavelle Law, Ltd. consists of 23 attorneys working across more than a dozen practice groups. The firm has received numerous awards and commendations for its work.
