Indie rockers Cooled Out Babies pair up with The Van Goghs for a night at the Debonair Social Club Friday, Nov. 20.

Babies, Van Goghs go Debonair

If the Beach Boys joined an indie band and played Lollapalooza, it'd probably sound a bit like the Cooled Out Babies. The songs off their 2014 album, “Emotional Crimes,” are a fascinating blend of modern-day lyricism, harmonies that evoke songs I heard growing up, and fuzzed-out production and jangly percussions straight out of the modern indie scene. The band pairs perfectly with The Van Goghs, local rockers who dabble in throwback classic rock sensibilities while holding true to modern indie sounds, particularly on their epic “Higher to the Sun.” Post-punk indie band I Lost Control opens the night at Debonair Social Club, 1575 N. Milwaukee Ave., Chicago. (773) 297-7990 or debonairsocialclub.do312.com. 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 20
