Star Wars Day Coming to Northbrook Library

To celebrate the release of the Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the Northbrook Public Library will host its first ever Star Wars Day on Saturday, December 12.

From 9:30am to 4:30pm on December 12, Star Wars fans of all ages can come to the Library to enjoy a wide variety of activities and events dedicated to the legendary franchise. Costumes at Star Wars Day are highly encouraged for adults and children alike.

"Very happily for us longtime Star Wars fans, the release of Episode VII this December means renewed interest in the series," said Digital Services Manager Cathleen Doyle, who has been instrumental in creating this event. "We see Star Wars Day as a great opportunity for fans old and new to get together, learn new stuff about [the films], and celebrate everything Star Wars."

Star Wars Day attendees can enjoy their time at the Library with a number of activities, including:

• Live music performance of Star Wars music by Glenbrook North's brass quintet

• All-ages Star Wars trivia competition

• Refreshments in the famous Mos Eisley Cantina (the Library's café space outside the Pollak Room)

• Screening of the film Plastic Galaxy, a documentary on Star Wars toys

• Presentation on the impact of Star Wars when it was first released, from two local professors

• Interactive BB-8 Maze, where visitors can test out the new Sphero BB-8 toy

Additionally, Star Wars Day visitors can catch a screening of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the Youth Services department, commemorate Star Wars Day with the Library's photo booth, and even craft their own DIY Yoda ears or Princess Leia buns.

"The Library is where community happens, so Star Wars, which appeals to so many different people, is a natural fit," said Doyle. "We already offer a variety of programming for all ages and interests, and that's exactly what we'll have on Star Wars Day-just with a Star Wars focus."

Star Wars Day at the Library is free and open to the public.

The Northbrook Public Library is located at 1201 Cedar Lane. For more information on Star Wars Day, please visit www.northbrook.info/starwars or call 847-272-6224.
