Robber strikes at PNC Bank in downtown Elgin

No injuries were reported after a downtown Elgin bank was robbed Monday morning, police said.

Police responded at about 10 a.m. to a report of a robbery at PNC Bank, 28 N. Grove Ave., Cmdr. Dan O'Shea said in a news release.

A man described as black, between about 5-foot-11 and 6-foot-1 and of medium build, wearing a black hat, sunglasses, and a gray/tan fleece jacket entered the bank and demanded cash, then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money, according information from police and bandittracker.com. Joan Hyde, media coordinator for the Chicago FBI office, confirmed the website's information.

The man did not display a weapon; no employees or customers were injured, authorities said.

The investigation is being coordinated by the FBI with assistance from Elgin detectives. Anyone with information can call the Chicago FBI office at (312) 421-6700.
