Conant High kick off annual food drive

Jarrett Payton, son of former Bears great and NFL hall-of-famer Walter Payton, visited James B. Conant High School Tuesday, Nov. 10, to help kick off a canned food drive at the school.

Payton spoke to more than 1,000 students at an assembly in the gymnasium, providing an all-encompassing motivational message of giving back to the local community, never giving up and being kind to others.

The annual food drive, sponsored by Student Council and Cultural Awareness, runs through Friday, Nov. 20. Students and staff are encouraged to participate with their second period class to donate as many food items as possible.

Last year, students and staff at the school donated approximately 4,800 food items to the Elk Grove and Schaumburg food pantries.
