Lake Park students to perform 'Picnic'

Students at Lake Park High School are set to perform William Inge's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Picnic."

Performances begin at 7 p.m. through Saturday, Nov. 14, at Lake Park High School's East Campus, 600 S. Medinah Road, Roselle.

Known for its fascinating characters and explosive themes, "Picnic" tells the story of what happens when a charming character named Hal comes to a small Kansas town in 1953 and turns the lives of the community upside down.

A play that has become a classic in American theater, "Picnic" won both the Pulitzer Prize and the New York Drama Critics' Circle Award for Best Play in 1953.

Lake Park senior Nick Martin portrays Hal Carter and sophomore Amanda Brommel plays Madge Owens.

"The action is very character-driven, and all of the roles are challenging for high school students," director Kathy Weber said.

Tickets, available at the door, are $5 for adults, $3 for students from other schools, and free to Lake Park students and senior citizens.
