New Kane County Cougars logo marks new chapter in team history

The Kane County Cougars baseball team Tuesday unveiled a new logo and uniform designs, the first substantial change since the team's inception in 1991.

"It's a big day for the Cougars," General Manager and Vice President Curtis Haug said. "It's something we've been working on for several months. We thought it'd be a good time to start the next 25 years."

Cougars Graphic Designer Emmet Broderick worked with Studio Simon, a sports brand identity firm, on the logo, which premiered on the team's website and social media outlets Tuesday.

The first time fans can see the players in the new uniforms is opening night April 7.

A green-eyed Cougar with a growling look is framed by the team's name and a wood-detailed, park ranger-shaped badge in front of a tree line, which recognizes the team's partnership with the Kane County Forest Preserve District.

The furry "Cougars" script lettering incorporates the look of a cougar's tail in the letters "C" and "g."

"The strong symbols and colors associated with our re-branded identity are modern, innovative, and tell our story so well," said Bob Froehlich, team owner. "We're confident that fans will warmly embrace our new look. This truly is an exciting chapter in our history."

The Cougars are the Class A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks and more than 130 Cougars in team history have reached the major leagues, including Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Gonzalez and Kyle Schwarber.

Team apparel is available on the team's website kccougars.com.
