Reading goes to the dogs at Dundee Library

Dogs, as it turns out, not only make great pets, but also great listeners.

Young visitors to the Dundee Library in East Dundee found that out Sunday when the library held a Read to a Dog event.

Two certified therapy dogs and their handlers sat with children individually for 15-minute blocks while the kids read their own, or a library book, to the patient animals.

"Dogs are not judgmental listeners," said Elizabeth Novak, director of Children's Services at the Fox River Valley Public Library District. "They help to give children confidence."

The reading event happens eat 2 p.m. every Sunday, Parents can sign up their kids by calling the library at (847) 428-3661 or online at frvpld.info.
