Rauner makes two Barrington-area appointments

A Barrington attorney who has been the judge of the Illinois Court of Claims was appointed Friday to the Illinois Property Tax Appeal Board, while a South Barrington lawyer has been appointed to take his place on the claims court. Robert Steffen, named by Gov. Bruce Rauner to the Property Tax Appeal Board, has been the Court of Claims Judge since 2004. He has an Elgin law firm and prior to that was an assistant state's attorney in the Kane County state's attorney's office. Meanwhile, Peter G. Karahalios of South Barrington was appointed by Rauner as judge for the Illinois Court of Claims. Karahalios has been the chief legal counsel and sworn deputy treasurer in the Cook County Treasurer's Office since 2007.
