Aurora rapist faces prison for again failing to register with police

A 47-year-old rapist faces prison on charges he again failed to register as a sex offender with Aurora police.

Danny L. Bergloff, of the 100 block of Galena Boulevard, Aurora, was arrested at about 8:15 a.m. Saturday after police received a tip he was no longer living at an address on the 200 block of East New York Street, where he had previously registered, according to Aurora Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli.

Officers learned Bergloff moved Oct. 16 and "since he had three days to register his new address after moving, he was 11 days overdue," Ferrelli said.

Bergloff was being held on $100,000 bail, meaning he must post $10,000 to be released while the case is pending.

"Based on his history of violating the Sex Offender Registration Act, we requested a felony charge," Ferrelli said.

Bergloff pleaded guilty to a 1994 sex assault and went to prison again after failing to register with police in 2006, court records show.

In the 2006 case, Bergloff told police he had moved to the Hesed House homeless shelter, 659 S. River St., Aurora, on Oct. 25, 2006, according to court records.

On Nov. 13, 2006, police went to verify he was there and an employee said Bergloff only stayed there through Oct. 26, and he also had failed to register in 2000 and 2005, records show.

He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six years in prison, but was eligible to have his sentenced cut in half for good behavior.

Bergloff also was sentenced to six years in prison after he pleaded guilty to forcibly sexually assaulting a woman on June 22, 1994, at his home in Montgomery after a night of drinking, records show.

If convicted of this most recent failure to register case, Bergloff faces up to seven years in prison. He is next due in court Nov. 18.
