Source: Investigators to call Gliniewicz's death a suicide

Law enforcement officials will announce today the shooting death of Fox Lake police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz was a suicide, a source confirmed. Lake County authorities have scheduled a news conference for 10 a.m. to reveal "significant new information" about Gliniewicz's death. Gliniewicz, 52, was found dead in a marshy area Sept. 1 after radioing a dispatcher that he saw three men acting suspiciously at 7:52 a.m., authorities said. Full story.

Body of hit-and-run driver found in Aurora pond, police say

The identity of a 59-year-old Aurora man found in a retention pond in Aurora last night could be released today, as well as a cause of the crash of his vehicle in a retention pond, police said. The driver was believed to have been involved in three hit-and-run crashes before his car entered the pond at Normantown Road and Tara Belle Parkway, authorities said. Full story.

Florida driver charged in hit-and-run that killed Lake in the Hills couple

Police in Clearwater, Florida, have arrested the driver who they say was behind the wheel in a hit-and-run crash that killed a couple on vacation from Lake in the Hills. Charles Winzenread was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon in Clearwater and charged with leaving the scene of an accident involving death. John Berg and his live-in girlfriend, Viola Flores, were killed the evening of Oct. 18 when they were crossing a busy street and hit by Winzenread's car, police said. Full story.

Car hits pedestrian in Round Lake Beach

One person was injured after a car struck a pedestrian last night in Round Lake Beach, authorities said. The crash occurred about 8:30 p.m. on the street outside the Oak Hill Supportive Living Community, 76 E. Rollins Road. Full story.

Donations sought for family displaced by house fire near Crystal Lake

A Crystal Lake church is raising funds to help a family of seven people displaced after a Tuesday morning fire near that town. An explosion and ensuing blaze razed a home on the 6000 block of Blue Court in unincorporated Crystal Lake, officials said. Bulls defense disappears at Charlotte

The Bulls faced a Charlotte Hornets team hungry to get in the win column Tuesday night after an 0-3 start. The Hornets shot the lights out and trounced the Bulls from start to finish, winning 130-105. "It was complete domination from the tip," coach Fred Hoiberg said. "They just had their way with us.
