The Lake County Major Crimes Task Force held a press conference detailing evidence they say shows Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz had been using the police Explorers money for personal use before he committed suicide.

A news release issued by the Lake County Sheriff's Office said investigators have determined this staged suicide was the end result of extensive criminal acts Gliniewicz had been committing, and the face he was under increasing levels of personal stress from scrutiny of his management of the Fox Lake Police Explorer program. It also says the investigation strongly indicates criminal activity on the part of at least two other people, but would not comment further because it is part of an ongoing investigation.
