Active shooter drill planned at Barrington school

While students are home for a three-day weekend, an active shooter simulation will be conducted Friday morning at Barrington Middle School - Station Campus.

The training session will be organized by the Barrington police and fire departments and will be similar to the large-scale drill conducted with hundreds of public safety officials at Barrington High School in the spring, but much smaller.

"It's not going to be as elaborate," District 220 Superintendent Brian Harris said. "We're just working with our middle school staff now."

Only village of Barrington law enforcement and firefighters will be part of the drill. A school district news release said the drill will include real weapons being fired, but without bullets.

Law enforcement and middle school staff members will begin to prepare for the drill at 8 a.m., and it will begin at 8:30 a.m.
