Duo brings Celtic music to CLC stage

"Visions of Cape Breton and Beyond: A Celtic Family Celebration" will be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 15, at the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts at the College of Lake County.

The performance by Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy and their children will highlight the family's talents, influences and stories through Celtic dancing, singing and music-making.

MacMaster, who grew up in rural Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, is a globally acclaimed fiddle player who has appeared on numerous Canadian Broadcasting Corp., CTV and PBS TV shows and sold more than 200,000 albums. Leahy is part of a multi-generation farming and musical family from Lakefield, Ontario.

As the musical leader of double platinum-selling, festival-headlining group, Leahy's high-energy performances have become his musical signature.

Since marrying in 2002, MacMaster and Leahy, often referred to as the "First Couple of Contemporary Celtic Music," have been captivating audiences with their musical skills and joy at playing the fiddle. With the "Visions of Cape Breton and Beyond" tour, audiences will gain insight into the place, people and culture that has shaped their lives.

Expanding on their Cape Breton musical heritage, the couple's children have embraced their centuries-old musical inheritance. The performance will feature many selections from the album "One," MacMaster and Leahy's recording debut as a duo. The album includes original material and reinterpretations of traditional and contemporary tunes.

WDCB radio 90.9 is the media sponsor for the performance.

Tickets are $45-$52 for regular admission; $44-$51 for seniors and CLC staff and alumni; $15 for CLC students and teens; and $12 for children (prices do not include a $2 JLC facility fee).
