Audition for 'Monty Python's Spamalot!' Nov. 14, 16 at ECC

Elgin Community College Musical Theatre announces auditions for its production of "Monty Python's Spamalot!" with book and lyrics by Eric Idle, and music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle.

It is a new musical lovingly ripped off from the motion picture "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," from the original screenplay by Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones, and Michael Palin. Directing and choreographing the musical is Konnie Kay. ECC professor John G. Slawson, DMA, is the artistic and musical director.

This Tony-winning musical based on the classic 1975 British comedy film retells (with much comedic license) the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features cows, killer rabbits, French people, and a bevy of beautiful show girls.

Auditions for men and women are available by appointment from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, and 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16. Open auditions are scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14 and 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16. Auditions will be held in the ECC Arts Center, Building H, room H245 on the main campus, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

Performers should prepare a musical number from any Broadway show other than "Monty Python's Spamalot!" and bring sheet music in a 3-ring binder for the accompanist that will be provided. Taped accompaniment or a cappella singing will not be permitted. Be prepared to tell a joke or funny story. Please wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the dance audition. Auditions are open to ages 16 and older.

If necessary, callbacks are scheduled for 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19.
