Girls cross country: Kaneland, Rosary, Harvest advance to state

Kaneland, Rosary and Harvest Christian qualified their girls cross country teams for the state final meet next Saturday in Peoria through their performances at sectional meets held on Saturday.

At the Class 2A Woodstock North sectional, Kaneland scored 189 points to secure the fifth and final team berth. Vernon Hills won the meet with 79, followed by Belvidere North, Crystal Lake Central and Grayslake Central.

Noelle Espino was Kaneland's top runner, finishing in a time of 18:43. Also scoring for the Knights were Brianna Brower, Grace Purcell, Andrea Wells and Tessa Brennan.

Burlington Central's Megan Safranski finished in eighth place to qualify individually.

Rosary qualified as a team by finishing fourth at the Class 2A Wheaton Academy sectional.

Madison Ronzone (5th), Shea Vero (19th), Megan Ronzone (25th), Hannah Regan (26th) and Brooke Delahanty (35th) scored points for the Royals.

Aurora Central Catholic qualified two runners as Abby Fioresi took third place and Karina Liz was 21st.

In the Class 1A sectional at Oregon, Harvest Christian finished fourth to advance as a team. Nygia Pollard, Hannah Nelson, Rachel Higbee, Kaelie Sjodin and Richter Cassidy were the Lions' scoring runners.

St. Edward's Megan Kremer qualified as an individual by finishing ninth at the Class 1A Lisle sectional, while Crystal Lake South's Caitlin Bruzzini advanced by finishing 12th at the Class 3A Schaumburg sectional.
