Dist. 54 teachers honored for book collections

The Schaumburg Township Elementary District 54 school board plans to visit six teachers across the district in November to praise them for filling their classroom libraries with more than 1,000 books.

A significant body of research states that the more children read, the better readers they become. Experts recommend that every classroom should have 1,000 books to meet the wide range of abilities and interests of children.

The teachers join 231 other District 54 teachers previously honored for reaching this goal.

The honorees are Sam Natrop of John Muir Literacy Academy, Margie Taucher of Campanelli School, Claudia Vanyai of Enders-Salk School, Julie Collier of Stevenson School, Katie Chika of Fox School, and Mary Holzman of Armstrong School.
