Student charged with bringing BB gun to Larkin High
A student accused of bringing a BB gun to Larkin High School in Elgin Friday is facing a charge of disorderly conduct, police said.
The school was on brief lockdown Friday morning.
"It started shortly after 10 a.m.," Elgin Police Cmdr. Ana Lalley said. The situation was resolved within an hour and classes resumed, Lalley added.
School administrators reported two students were seen with a "potential handgun" while seated in a vehicle in a school parking lot, police said.
An Elgin Police school resource officer worked with administrators to secure students and the school, police said.
The suspected students were identified, found, and a pellet gun was recovered in a vehicle, police said.
Further investigation revealed only one of the 17-year-old male students had the BB gun while seated in the vehicle, police said.
That student faces one count of disorderly conduct. He is expected to be released to the custody of his parents, police said.
