Memorials set up for two drivers killed in Schaumburg crash

People have erected three roadside memorials at the site where two people were killed and one was left critically injured in a two-car crash following a hit-and-run accident Monday night in Schaumburg.

The crash happened at 7:06 p.m. near the intersection of Springinsguth and Hartmann roads. Erin Semerad, 39, of Schaumburg was at a stop sign on Hartmann, beginning to turn left onto Springinsguth when a vehicle driven by Michael J. Owsiany, 19, of Elk Grove Village struck the driver's side of her vehicle, police said. Owsiany's vehicle had just been involved in a minor collision where he clipped a vehicle slowing to turn off Springinsguth, police said.

Semerad was pronounced dead on the scene, while Owsiany was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge where he was pronounced dead. His passenger, Ashley E. Trenholm, 23, of Schaumburg was taken to the same hospital in critical condition.

This is one of three memorials erected by neighbors and friends of the victims of an accident Monday night in Schaumburg that left two people dead and one in critical condition. None of the memorials have names on them. Pam Baert/pbaert@dailyherald.com
