Children show off Halloween costumes during Grayslake library parade

Children got out of the cold Thursday to participate in the annual trick-or-treat parade through the Grayslake Area Public Library.

About 20 children, ages 6 and younger, participated in the parade that snaked through the library and allowed participants to collect candy and show off their costumes.

Librarian Jana Crabtree read Halloween stories to the children before the parade.

The library has been doing the program for about 15 years, according to Crabtree, who said the librarians ask to be on the parade route.

"They love it," she said.

The library will also be a stop in downtown Grayslake's trick-or-treating event Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Village of Grayslake trick-or-treat hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday.
