Police: Driver in fatal Bensenville crash faces charges

The driver of a truck that struck and killed an 86-year-old woman outside a Bensenville Dunkin' Donuts last week now faces charges, Bensenville police said.

The victim, Modesta De La Rosa, 86, of Bensenville, was walking on the sidewalk in front of 1004 W. Irving Park Road around 7:30 a.m. when the driver of a gray, extended-cab Ford pickup truck pulled out and turned right, striking her, police said.

Police Chief Frank Kosman said officers were able to identify the driver and his truck after reviewing surveillance footage from the area and speaking to several witnesses.

Zehrudin Livadic, 51, of Melrose Park, was arrested and charged Wednesday with failure to yield to a pedestrian

"We learned that his routine was to go there every morning at the same time," Kosman said Monday. "So we sat and waited for him Saturday morning and he showed up, just as we were told he would."

Livadic was initially interviewed and released without charges being filed, although police have impounded the truck.

Kosman declined to say what, if any, explanation the driver has provided to police. De La Rosa was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

Livadic is expected to appear in an Addison courtroom at 1 p.m. Dec. 7.
