North Central artists explore imagination
North Central College presents the two-student exhibit "Apparitions," featuring paintings, sculptures and drawings by sophomores Kat Kazmierski and Alex Peters.
The free exhibit is on display through Sunday, Nov. 1, in the Meiley-Swallow Hall Gallery, 31 S. Ellsworth St., Naperville.
With the Halloween season upon us, Kazmierski and Peters understand how our imaginations take us many different places, some dark and some filled with pure imagination. "Apparitions" looks to explore the variances in the directions an individual's imagination can take a person when the mind is left to run wild.
Kazmierski, of Monroe, Michigan, is majoring in graphic arts with a minor in psychology. She also played the flute in the college's Concert Winds ensemble. An artist since childhood, she has experience with many different mediums.
A notable cornerstone of her artistic career is her painting of the Chicago skyline, which is on permanent display in the British Petroleum offices in Oregon, Ohio. Kazmierski hopes to use her degree to become a professional video game artist.
Peters, of Bartlett, is an entrepreneurship and small business management major and studio arts minor. He race-walks as one of the top athletes in the country and has competed on multiple U.S. teams.
He plays the oboe and alto saxophone in the college's symphonic and athletic bands. He plans to own his own art gallery for pre-professional artists to present their works and gain experience selling their pieces in a real-world environment.
Art students at North Central College learn traditional and contemporary media, to communicate ideas visually, and engage in analytical, critical and abstract thinking. Students attend gallery and museum openings and exhibits in Naperville and Chicago, meet visiting artists, enter juried exhibitions and gain an academic foundation for graduate study in studio art, art education, art history, art therapy, arts administration, art criticism and visual communications.
