Jesse White to visit veterans at Elgin Community College

Suburban veterans and their family members in need of support services and employment assistance can attend Elgin Community College's annual Veteran Resource and Job Fair Friday.

The event, serving Kane, DuPage, and Cook counties, is 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Building J Events Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin. It will feature more than 70 veteran-friendly employers, including local, state and federal government agencies and veteran-owned companies.

Representatives from various legal services, county agencies, senior and homeless services, and education will assist veterans with their needs.

Secretary of State Jesse White also will help veterans get their state driver's license or ID updated to show "veteran" status.

Two Department of Veteran Affairs Mobile Vet Centers will be on-site in the parking lot across from the Events Center. The centers - two of 50 that travel nationwide - provide readjustment counseling services for veterans who have served in combat and their families.

The fair is sponsored by ECC's Veterans Support Team, VFW Post 5151, Illinois Department of Employment Security, VET Center, Illinois WorkNet, Hanover Township, and state and county agencies.
