Dist. 95 fun run raises $4,600 for educational programs
About 200 runners and walkers turned out to support educational innovation in District 95 in Hawthorn Woods on Oct. 4, running in the fifth annual District 95 Educational Foundation's 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run.
The event raised more than $4,600 to help fund initiatives such as the Foundation's Creative Spaces grant program, which supports educators' efforts to transform their classrooms and learning environments, accommodating collaborative teaching techniques and evolving instructional technologies. More than 45 volunteers helped make the event possible. A competition was held to see which of the eight Dist. 95 schools had the most participation at the elementary and middle school levels, and Isaac Fox Elementary and Middle School North took home the traveling trophies.
"It's so great to see our community come together for this event. It's an important reminder that we're all in this together, working to support our educators and improve our children's school experiences," said Nancy Coleman, Executive Director of the D95 Educational Foundation.
Overall 5K winners were Joe Heffernan, 15, of Deer Park and Melissa Goldberg, 17, of Lake Zurich. Overall results will be available online at district95foundation.org.
Local event sponsors included Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Chick-fil-A-Kildeer, CrossFit of Lake Zurich, Eggshells, Inland Bank, Kohl's, Melon Ink, Peapod, and Village Dental Center.
The Foundation's mission is to raise funds to support activities that enhance, enrich and supplement instructional opportunities for CUSD 95 learners. For more information about the Foundation, visit district95foundation.org.
