Girls volleyball: St. Charles North wins regional semifinal

St. Charles North d. Oswego: Claire Anderson had 15 kills and 3 digs while Jaclyn Taylor dished out 20 assists to lead the North Stars to a 25-22, 25-14 win in the semifinals of the Class 4A Waubonsie Valley regional. Sam Lappin added 7 digs and Nikki Thrun 4 aces for SCN (33-3), which will play Waubonsie Valley Thursday for the regional title.

Burlington Central d. Freeport: Setter Lexi DeWaard had 26 assists and Summer Smith 12 kills to lead the Rockets to a 25-19, 29-27 semifinal win at the Class 3A Rockford Boylan regional. Lexie VanHiel (8 kills) and Megan Lomas (5 kills) also contributed for BC, which will play the host Titans Thursday for the regional crown.

St. Edward d. Byron: Dominique Washington had a monster game with 19 kills and 14 digs as the Green Wave outlasted Byron 25-8, 23-25, 25-14 in the semifinals of the Class 2A Somonauk regional. Megan Barth added 12 kills and 8 digs, Gabriella Tripicchio had 33 assists and Brianna Lopez 9 digs for St. Edward (17-15), which will play top-seeded Rockford Lutheran Thursday at 6 p.m. for the title.

Kaneland d. Plano: At the Class 3A Plano regional, Hannah Nauert served 21 points and Kathy Nguyen 10 to lead the Knights (20-13-1) to a 25-20, 25-5 win in the regional semifinals. Kaneland will play Sterling Thursday for the regional championship.

Harvest Christian d. Westminster Christian: Mikayla Robinson had 6 kills, Candis Kaplan 8 digs and Hannah Murray 13 assists to lead the Lions (21-14) to a 25-14, 25-9 win in the semifinals of the Class 1A Faith Lutheran regional. Ellie Burzlaff, Amanda Cassidy and Hannah Griffth combined to serve 16 aces for Harvest, which will play the host school Thursday for the regional title. Emily Lamp (3 kills, 2 digs) and Grace Bickford (2 kills, 2 digs) led Westminster (4-26).
