South Elgin wins regional opener

South Elgin opened the girls volleyball postseason Monday night with a 25-14, 25-18 victory over Rockford Jefferson Monday in the Class 4A DeKalb regional.

The Storm will play Crystal Lake South in the regional semifinals at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Rachel Priore led the Storm with 9 kills and had 8 digs. Hayley Fisher added 5 kills. Casie Swanson set 12 assists, and Sarah Murray led with 11 digs.

Naperville Central d. Bartlett: Andie Sobotka had 10 digs for the Hawks in a 25-14, 25-11 loss at the Class 4A St. Charles East regional. Bartlett finished the season 12-16-1.

Plainfield North d. Batavia: The Bulldogs (14-22) lost a 20-25, 25-20, 25-21 heartbreaker in the Class 4A Plainfield North regional when Northwestern-bound Allie Lindroth put away 9 kills in the deciding third set.

Batavia posted a season-high 36 kills in the final match of the season led by Maddy Astling (12 kills), Sam Juarez (10 kills, 9 digs), Jenna Garrett (30 assists, 8 digs) and Lindsey Scanlan (11 digs, 2 aces).
