Niles man struck and killed by SUV on Golf Road

An 84-year-old Niles man was struck and killed by an SUV early Friday morning as he crossed Golf Road, authorities said.
The victim, identified as Richard S. Stern, was walking in the crosswalk in the 8900 block of Golf Road when he was struck about 6 a.m., according to Niles police.
The man was hit by a Dodge Durango traveling westbound in the center lane. The driver of the SUV, a 56-year-old man from Evanston, remained at the scene and is cooperating in the investigation, police said.
No charges or citations have been issued.
Golf Road was closed for several hours between Dee Road and Western Avenue while Niles police and the Major Crash Assistance Team investigated.
