Mt. Prospect kindergartner rides to school on a fire truck

Michael Matz, who is 5, won a trip to school on a fire truck in a fundraising pizza and bingo night sponsored by the Parent Teacher Council at Indian Grove School in Mount Prospect.

John Matz, his dad, said the family bought eight raffle tickets for $40, and Michael was very excited to be the raffle winner as, like many children his age, he has a passion for fire trucks.

"He jumped out of bed this morning saying, 'I'm so excited, I can't wait,'" John Matz said. "He knows today was the day, and he got his fireman's hat and his coat and boots and was ready to go."

Firefighters showed up at 8:10 a.m. Friday and spent about 20 minutes showing him the truck and their gear before dropping him off at the school a few blocks away to be greeted by his kindergarten classmates.

Michael's mom, Diane, joined him on the ride.

"This was perfect for him," his dad said."We were very happy that he got this."
