Mount Prospect man charged in Arlington Heights rape
Fingerprints taken after a recent arrest have linked a Mount Prospect man to the 2014 sexual assault of an Arlington Heights woman, police said.
Police say Reynaldo Pineda, 35, of the 2000 block of West Algonquin Road, broke into the home at 2 a.m. Sept. 25, 2014, through a window. He assaulted the 68-year-old homeowner and then stole her jewelry, according to police.
Fingerprints collected from the home were entered into a national fingerprint database and didn't immediately find a match.
But on Oct. 18, Pineda was arrested by the Cook County sheriff's police for a traffic offense, according to a news release. Fingerprints taken during the booking process were entered into the database and matched the prints taken from the Arlington Heights home, the news release said.
Pineda was arrested at his home Wednesday and charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault and home invasion. He's expected to appear in bond court this afternoon in Rolling Meadows.
