Wheeling man charged with sexually abusing teenage girl

A Wheeling man who prosecutors say sexually abused a teenage girl for about 15 months was ordered held on a total bail of $220,000 Tuesday.

Richard Asencio, 25, was charged with aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a felony punishable by up to seven years in prison. Cook County Judge Joseph Cataldo ordered Asencio have no contact with the girl or her family.

Prosecutors say Asencio had a Facebook relationship with the girl that turned sexual in June 2014, when she was 13 and he was 23.

In June 2015, the girl discovered she was pregnant and subsequently terminated the pregnancy, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney Maureen McGee. When she told Asencio, he fled to Mexico, McGee said.

He returned earlier this month and was arrested after a Wheeling detective saw him walking with the girl.

Asencio admitted having a sexual relationship with the girl, McGee said.

His background includes a four-year prison sentence in 2010 for residential burglaries and a burglary, McGee said. At the time of his arrest, Asencio was on conditional discharge for battery.

He next appears in court on Nov. 13.
