Trick-or-treat early at Algonquin, Geneva Commons

It happens every October.

Parents go all out on Halloween costumes, either sewing an intricate design or spending big bucks on store-bought items, only to have their kids wear it just that one day.

And, often, it is so cold the kids are bundled up and you can barely see the masterpiece anyway.

Fortunately, there are some Halloween happenings along the Randall Road corridor this month that will give your little goblins and pumpkins at least one more chance to wear their fun outfit.

This Sunday, Oct. 25, there will be a Boo Party and trick-or-treat fun from noon to 3 p.m. at Algonquin Commons in Algonquin.

As if they won't get enough candy next Saturday on Halloween, there will be special trick-or-treating hours at the mall from 1 to 3 p.m.

Kids are invited to go up to participating retailers and get their loot right at the door at some of their favorites stores.

As part of the event, there also will be free face painting, caricature drawings and pumpkin decorating in the center courtyard.

The Boo Party also will feature entertainment from magicians, Kyuki-Do Martial artists and balloon sculptors, said Kim Gilmore of Gilmore Marketing Concepts, which does marketing for Algonquin Commons.

The event is geared toward children ages 12 and younger.

Scares to the south:

If you plan your day just right, you can hit the same type of event at Geneva Commons from 3-5 p.m. Sunday.

Zombies, Donald Trumps and cute little critters can stroll the Geneva Commons mall from 3 to 5 p.m. that day for treats. Just stop by any retailer with a sign in its window for this safe trick-or-treat event.

'Click, Clack, Boo!':

To get your kiddos even more into the Halloween spirit, the Barnes and Noble along Randall Road in Geneva will be hosting a special story time Saturday, Oct. 24.

Beginning at 11 a.m., the store at 102 Commons Drive will be featuring the popular children's book "Click, Clack, Boo!"

There also will be activities centered around this book, which features Farmer Brown, who does not like Halloween. In the book, he tries to escape the holiday by putting on his pajamas, closing the shades and climbing into bed. But the animals on his farm are ready to party for Halloween.

The story time is free and open to the public. For information, call (630) 262-8568.
