Chimney swift tower project to be discussed

A chimney swift tower project is the topic of the next meeting of the Lake County Audubon Society from 7:30 to 9 p.m., Monday, Nov. 2, at the Libertyville village hall, 118 W. Cook Ave. Rich and Marion Miller from the Kane County Audubon Society will discuss chimney swifts and their conservation needs, and the genesis and cooperation involved with their tower project completed last year. These birds, described as "flying cigars" devouring thousands of insects per night, but have experienced a 50 percent decline in the last 40 years. Tower successes, pitfalls and lessons learned will be shared and an update of a Lake County project will be given. Visit www.lakecountyaudubon.org/.
