Week 8, Chicago Catholic: Marmion, Aurora Christian in divisional crossover

Aurora Christian (3-4) at Marmion (2-5)

Chicago Catholic League crossover

Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday

Last week: De La Salle 28, Marmion 7; St. Laurence 63, Aurora Christian 24

Last year: Marmion 56, Aurora Christian 0

Outlook: Marmion can play spoiler to its rival's playoff hopes with a win in this meeting of Aurora private schools. The Eagles need to win this game, win their Week 9 game against Leo (1-6) and hope they have enough playoff points to get into the postseason. "We're going to need some help," Aurora Christian coach David Beebe said. "This time of year, who knows where that number (of playoff points to qualify) is going to be at. We have to win our 2 games, that's the first thing, then let the chips fall where they may." Marmion has dominated the last two meetings since Aurora Christian's 38-14 victory in 2012. The Cadets won 35-13 in 2013 and 56-0 last year. ""We've played them well recently," Marmion coach Dan Thorpe said. "And this opportunity comes at the right time for us on our homecoming. A lot of our kids grew up playing youth basketball and track against their kids in the Sugar Grove and Yorkville areas. It's a classic small-school matchup. We're going to line up our 23 players against their 23 players and see who wins." Marmion must keep an eye on Aurora Christian running back Jeremiah Wright. He has rushed for 732 yards and 4 touchdowns in 115 attempts and grabbed 29 receptions for 326 yards and 5 touchdowns.

Next week: Montini (7-0) at Marmion; Aurora Christian at Leo (1-6)

De La Salle (3-4, 2-1) at St. Francis (4-3, 1-1)Game time: 7:30 p.m. Friday.

The quick hit: St. Francis (26 playoff points) probably needs to win out to gain a playoff berth. Peter Fassnacht threw for 310 yards at Montini and receivers Brett Whelton and Will Purdom were outstanding, yet turnovers and finishing are areas to be addressed.
