Vehicle strikes teacher in Schaumburg High School parking lot

A Schaumburg High School teacher suffered injuries that do not appear life-threatening after a vehicle struck her in the school's parking lot Tuesday morning, officials said.

The driver of a Toyota Sienna was backing up in the parking lot when she was blinded by the sun and felt something hit her vehicle, Schaumburg Police Commander Dave Wermes said.

According to police, the teacher fell and hit her head on the concrete, and the vehicle ran over her legs. Officials said they heard informally that nothing was broken.

She was transported to St. Alexius Medical Center.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for improper backing, Wermes said.

"Our thoughts as a staff are with our staff member who was hit, as well as with the parent who hit her," Palatine Schaumburg Township High School District 211 Community Relations Director Tom Petersen said.
