GOP candidates should remember Eisenhower

Regarding the next Republican presidential debate, I constantly wonder why The GOP continues to ignore Eisenhower's eight years as president.

Besides being a great general in WWll, he was also the best "republican" president in my lifetime.

Ike built up our infrastructure with superhighways and turnpikes, opening up access to small towns, allowing for travel by car through the entire U.S.

This helped the automobile industry, the tire industry, the Greyhound Bus industry, creating millions of jobs. Not to mention he spearheaded our entry into the Space Age by sending two basketball sized satellites into space (frowned on and regarded as a waste of dollars by most Republicans), thus creating millions more jobs in America's space program well into the JFK and Nixon administrations.

Reagan's achievements pale in comparison to Ike's great achievements. With all these great achievements, Ike managed to balance the budget three times. Yet Reagan, who tripled America's debt, is the GOP's poster child.

It boggles the mind.

In the next GOP candidate debate, I'd like someone to ask each of the dozen or so president hopefuls why the GOP chose Reagan over Eisenhower as their favorite Republican president.

I would love to hear the answers.
