Churches celebrate Martin Luther with combined concert

The music ministries at Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Elk Grove Village and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Schaumburg are pleased to announce that their annual Combined Reformation Choral Concert Celebration will be presented on Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. in the Worship Center at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 930 W. Higgins Road, Schaumburg.

This annual musical get together, now in its 4th year, began at Christus Victor at the behest of Pastor Donald Myrom. Pastor Myrom served as Senior Pastor for more than 15 years at Prince of Peace and also served on staff at Christus Victor.

The choral music being performed serves as a reminder and celebration of the work of church reformer and theologian Martin Luther. 2017 will mark the 500th Anniversary of the posting of the 95th thesis by Luther at Wittenberg Chapel in Germany. This action helped to spur the Protestant Reformation.

Performances will include works by composers Jonathan Kohrs, Craig Courtney, Mark Hayes, Walter Pelz, Gary Hallquist and many others. Ensembles to appear include Christus Victor Chancel Choir, under the direction of George Gentes, Prince of Peace Adult Choir, under the direction of Scott Uddenberg, Christus Victor Revelation Brass, Prince of Peace Brass Ensemble, Prince of Peace Handbell Choir, and organist/pianists Kathleen Gentes and Stephen Uhl.

Admission to this concert is free and open to all. A free will offering will be collected to help support the music ministries at Christus Victor and Prince of Peace. For additional details or information, please contact Scott Uddenberg at uddenberg@princeof peace.net or call the Prince of Peace Church office at 847-885-7010.
