Boys soccer: Streamwood upsets St. Charles North

Streamwood 4, St. Charles North 3: Toyota Park became Upset City for the Sabres Saturday, as Edwin Rueda's 1 goal, 1 assist performance helped Streamwood defeat the No. 3 ranked North Stars (12-4-2, 4-1), who were undefeated in the UEC River coming in. "It was awesome for the guys getting a win over North, who's been on fire, lately," Streamwood coach Matt Polovin said. Rafa Gil, Donnie Sosa and Erie Ortiz all added first half goals while Brian Benitez added the only Sabres (8-6-4, 1-1-3). Keeper Daniel Domimguez managed 3 saves in net during the first half while Nick Gaviria notched 4 in the second half.

At Waubonsie Valley: Elgin's championship aspirations fell short after 2 overtimes and no goals scored in a loss to Metea Valley in penalty kicks. Goalkeeper Martin Jimenez Estrada turned in 15 saves in net. Earlier on Saturday, Elgin (12-5-2) defeated Waubonsie Valley 2-0 with 2 goals from Jon Ramirez and 1 from Jesus Lopez. Edgar Rodriguez had 8 saves for the shutout.

At Belvidere: Bartlett (11-7-2) cruised to 3-1 and 3-0 wins over United Township and Belvidere, but dropped the championship match to Sterling 4-3. Igor Zwada led Hawks with 1 goal and 1 assist. Oliver Saile and Ryan Stratton also netted goals while TJ Ivkovich and Bryan Recinos each had 1 assist. Goalie Jake Hasenstein had 4 saves and finished with 8 overall for the day. Zwada also added 1 goal and 3 assists earlier in the day, while Ryan Stratton registered a goal and an assist against UT. Tim Riordan and Bryan Recinos also chipped in goals and TJ Ivkovich sank 2 against Belvidere. Rahul Vences garnered an assist in that game as well. The Hawks can wrap up the Upstate Eight Valley with a win over East Aurora Thursday.

Burlington Central 2, Dixon 0: Jack Schramme was a one-man band in the scoring department, as his 2 goals helped the Rockets (10-9-1) to a Big Northern crossover win. AJ Gouriotis and Tony Rodriguez added assists and goalie Ryan Fitzgerald pitched a shutout with 6 saves in net.

Glenbrook North 2, CL South 1: The Gators (9-7-4) fell short in nonconference play, as Nikolas Getzinger's second half equalizer would be trumped late by the Spartans (11-6-3). Skyler Pentico 1 assist and goalie Spencer Traub finished with 6 saves. Brandon Gorka also added 3 saves in the cage.
