Financial options explored at ECC College Smart Fair Nov. 7

Elgin Community College will be hosting a College Smart Fair on Saturday, Nov. 7, to help provide assistance and answers to students and their parents. This free event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the Building E University and Business Center, 1700 Spartan Drive, Elgin.

The fair will provide beneficial information for current college students, future college students, and their families to use no matter what college or university they plan to attend.

Students and families will get the chance to receive advice and instructions on filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to maximize their financial aid. Guests will also be given the opportunity to learn more about the true cost of college, scholarships, student loans, and much more.

Participants will hear from panels of current college students and parents about how to successfully manage financial obligations and how to manage stress while paying for a child's education.

Several sessions will be available in Spanish. In addition, student account and financial aid representatives from various colleges and organizations will be available to answer general financial questions.

New this year: For those unable to attend, ECC is also offering a free, online course, "How to Navigate Paying for College," available from Monday, Nov. 16 through Friday, Dec. 11.

For more information about the fair or the online course, visit elgin.edu/financialliteracy. To reserve a seat at the fair, contact financialsmarts@elgin.edu.
