Palatine Fall Festival returns for 18th year

Families can enjoy a petting zoo, wagon and pony rides and scarecrow making, among other activities, on Saturday when the Palatine Park District hosts its 18th annual Fall Festival.

The free fest takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Palatine Stables, 1510 W. Northwest Hwy., in Palatine.

Other highlights will include craft making, riding demonstrations by the Palatine Stables Show Team, a kids zone with bounce houses and games, seasonal craft vendors and sponsor booths.

The Meadowlark Stage will offer free entertainment throughout the day, including a storyteller, a concert by Istvan and His Imaginary Band, and a performance by the Whistling Dixies at 2:30 p.m. Mr. Magic will be giving roaming performances during the event.

Concessions will be available for purchase from Palatine Park District's Stableside Café, Morkes Chocolates, Chick-fil-A Kildeer and Urban Kettle Popcorn.

The second annual Scarecrow Contest will be from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For $10, participants will be given a scarecrow frame, a small burlap sack and a bag of straw. Additional clothing and decorating items will be available, or decorations and clothing can be brought to the event.

Prizes will be awarded at 3:45 p.m. for the first, second and third place scarecrows, and the creations can be taken home.
