Aurora police sting nets 3 years; man planned to have sex with minor at hotel

An Aurora man nabbed in an online sex sting was sentenced to three years in prison.

Josh T. Archer, 33, of the 1500 block of Simms Street, pleaded guilty on Monday to showing up at a hotel to have sex with a minor, a felony.

He was one of eight people arrested in December 2014 and January 2015 after Aurora police put ads online offering minor girls for sex at a local hotel,

According to prosecutors, Archer went to an Aurora hotel on Dec. 23 planning to have sex with whom he believed would be a 14- or 15-year-old girl.

Authorities said he had responded to an online ad he thought was written by the girl's mother. When Archer arrived at the hotel, he met that person, confirmed that he wanted sex, and then was arrested by officers from Homeland Security Investigations and the Aurora Police Department.

Archer also must register for 10 years as a sex offender. He can have his sentence halved for good behavior in prison.

He is the second of the eight to plead guilty. Andres Alonzo, 22, of Aurora, pleaded guilty in July to going to a hotel with the intention of having sex with two underage girls. He was sentenced to seven years in prison.
