Join 10th annual Women's Conference at Elgin church

Second Baptist Church will host its 10th annual Women's Conference, "Strong Dignified Women of God: Proverbs 31:25-26" from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16; and 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, at the church, 1280 Summit St. in Elgin. On Sunday, Oct. 18, join the services at 8 and 10:30 a.m. Find whatever is holding you back from reaching the next level in your life.

In the first session, Joyce Fountain, an instructor at Elgin Community College, will speak on "Sisterhood: Are you a Strong Dignified Woman of God?" Celebrate the power of Christian sisterhood and encourage an atmosphere of loving sisterhood that embraces women.

The first session for young adults will be "Jesus and the 2015 Woman: You Are who HE says you are!" by the Rev. Denise Holt, Second Baptist Church in Elgin. Insight for today's Christian single woman with regards to dealing with relationships and a discussion of the virtuous women.

The first session for youth will be "I Am That Girl: Empowering Teens in their Everyday Life" by Sarah Hoff, Kane County Probation Officer. Discuss self-esteem and empowerment as it relates to peer pressure, and how to overcome peer pressure (drugs, alcohol and unhealthy relationships) and have a better relationship with the Lord.

Session two will be "Realizing Your Aha! Moment: Sustaining and Promoting Women's Health and Wellness" by Eno Nsima-Obot, M.D. Discussion on how to live a less stressful and a more well balanced life.

The young adults session II will be "What's Your Passion?: Career Paths for Millennials" by the Rev. Donna Howell Vinson. The Millennial Generation is pressured to decide early on a career. While the Millennial Generation may have been described as being career-minded, that doesn't mean that every person in this group knows what she wants to do. This workshop will assist millennials with defining their career paths.

Session II for youth will be "Let Me Introduce You To … " by Michelle Gabel, a licensed social worker, and Angie Peralez. An interactive presentation on decision making and choices to help youth understand the importance and reasons for abstaining from drugs, alcohol and tobacco.

The Saturday keynote at 11:30 a.m. will be "Sister to Sister: Are You God's Kind of Woman?" by the Rev. Lasha Tennyson of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Joliet. A discussion of sisterhood and the unbreakable bond. You cannot call yourself Christian and continue to judge another - or yourself - so harshly - relax and rejoice in your divine differences.
