Search for driver who crashed into Schaumburg house continues

Schaumburg police Tuesday were still trying to locate the driver of a 2013 Nissan Sentra that crashed through the garage and into the living room of a house on the 1000 block of Springinsguth Road at 3:20 a.m. Sunday.

Residents of the heavily damaged home remained displaced Tuesday and expected to stay so for quite a while.

Though the residents were home at the time of the crash, none were injured.

Police say the driver of the car abandoned it and ran from the scene, even before the residents came to investigate the noise.

Given the evidence left behind, including the car itself, Schaumburg police Cmdr. Dave Wermes said he doesn't anticipate too many difficulties identifying at least the owner of the vehicle.

Officers checked with area hospitals after the crash but didn't find anyone who seemed to have been injured by such a collision.

Investigators determined that the Nissan Sentra was southbound on Springinsguth when its driver lost control. The car crashed through a fence and into the side of the home's garage before it plunged forward into the residence itself.

The gas line to the house was severed in the crash, and authorities evacuated adjacent homes as quickly as they could. The gas supply to the house was shut off.

Nicor Gas crews were working to restore the gas line Tuesday even as the extent of the damage to the entire house was still being assessed.
