Wrong-way driver hits school bus on Rt. 41

A wrong-way driver struck a school bus on Route 41 Tuesday morning, though the bus did not have any children on board, and neither driver suffered any injuries, authorities said.

The bus was traveling north on Route 41 near Route 120 just before noon when it was struck by a Ford Explorer headed in the opposite direction, said Lt. David Douglass of the Gurnee Fire Department.

The driver of the Explorer was taken to the hospital for a precautionary checkup, Douglass said.

The vehicles had minor damage, he said.

Gurnee police confirmed that the driver of the Explorer was arrested by Park City police, who did not share additional details Tuesday night.
